Once it came off the needles last night I realized that it has almost been 1 year, yes that’s right, a year, I have spent knitting, ripping and knitting this sock.

sock 1

Truly, it is not the sock’s fault, but mine. I started designing it just before I got the news about my breast cancer. All through what followed I tried to spend time knitting it, but my mind was always elsewhere. Though the pattern is simple, it was a mental challenge to remember when to knit and when to purl. Stockinette Stitch and Garter Stitch are the two most unforgiving patterns in the knitting universe.

Last night, much to Yarn Rascal’s chagrin, I finally finished the sock. I was even able to pair a lovely sewn bind off with the last purl row for a neat look with excellent elasticity. Thank you Yarn Harlot wherever you are for mentioning the sewn bind off in your latest blog post.

When I took the sock out of the Yarn Vault for photographing, my little assistant immediately appeared leaping and lunging at my heels. Is that the cutest little face? All intent watching the sock being photographed.
